Handwoven Rope Farmhouse Pendant Shade

An open rope weave does the thing solid shades cannot: it lets light through the gaps as well as out of the bottom, so the ceiling and the walls around the fitting fill with a pattern of fine lines and the room gets decorated as well as lit.

Rope gives the pattern a coarser, more rustic character than a fine cane or paper weave. It suits a farmhouse kitchen, a beamed room or anywhere the rest of the materials are honest and slightly rough, and it sits comfortably beside timber, stone and painted brick.

Three finishes are offered: white, brown and black. The tension and spacing of the weave vary a little between shades, so no two throw exactly the same shadow. Use a low-wattage warm bulb to keep heat away from natural fibre and to define the shadow pattern most clearly.
