Tinting the glass changes the light itself rather than only the look of the fitting. Amber warms everything it touches; smoke grey takes the edge off a bright source and lowers the apparent brightness without dimming. Red and blue tint the light more strongly again, which suits an accent position rather than a room's main light.

A brass-toned bracket is the natural partner for warm tinted glass because both are warm. A chrome bracket would fight amber glass; a brass tone agrees with it. The bracket carries a plated brass-effect finish rather than solid brass, so clean it dry and avoid abrasives, which will cut through the plating.

The sphere emits evenly in all directions, so there is no bright spot even at eye level, and the fitting works as well providing a low evening glow as it does giving general light. Four glass tones are offered: red, blue, amber and smoke grey. It is a hardwired fitting - isolate the circuit at the breaker panel first, and have a qualified electrician confirm the fixture's rated voltage before wiring it in.
