Solon Scandinavian LED Ceiling Light

Scandinavian lighting design tends to solve the same problem twice: give a room enough light, and do not make people look at the fitting. The Solon does exactly that. A shallow circular body sits close to the ceiling, and a full-face diffuser turns the LED module behind it into a single soft disc rather than a cluster of bright points.

Kept off, it is a plain circle that reads as part of the ceiling. Switched on, it delivers general room light with no visible source to catch the eye when you look up, which is what makes it comfortable in a bedroom where you spend time lying down. The proportions are restrained enough to suit a hallway or a small landing as well as a main room.

The LED is integrated, so there is nothing to unscrew and replace, and it draws considerably less power than a bulb-based fitting of equivalent output. It comes in two diameters, 30 cm and 40 cm, and in six colours: white, black, grey, blue, pink and yellow. It is a hardwired fitting - isolate the circuit at the breaker panel first, and have a qualified electrician confirm the fixture's rated voltage before wiring it in.
