Oval Faux Leather Placemats

A wipeable mat solves a specific problem that a fabric one does not. Spilled wine, coffee rings and crumbs come off a PU faux leather surface with a damp cloth in a few seconds, where woven placemats absorb the stain and go in the wash. These are finished with a fine linen-look grain, so they read as textile at a glance without behaving like one.

Each mat is oval, 30 by 44 cm, which fits a dinner plate with room for a glass and cutlery beside it without crowding a small table. They are sold singly or in sets of four and six, so a set can be matched to the table and topped up later rather than replaced. Eight colors run from dark grey, coffee and dark blue through to oatmeal, light grey, fog blue, green and pink.

They lie flat rather than curling at the edge, and being thin they stack into a drawer instead of needing to be rolled. Wipe with a damp cloth or rinse under a tap and they dry quickly. Avoid putting a pan straight from the hob onto one; use a trivet for cookware, and treat these as protection against spills and scratches rather than heat.
