The cylinder is the most disciplined ceiling form there is: straight walls, no taper, no decorative rim. Given a ceramic-style finish it stops reading as hardware and starts reading as a piece of pottery mounted to the ceiling, which is a much friendlier object to have overhead.

Straight walls also control the light. The beam leaves in a defined column rather than spreading sideways, so the fitting lights a specific area cleanly, which suits it to a dining table, a kitchen island or a spot over a bedside where you want the light contained.

Dimming turns one fitting into two: full output for a working kitchen, low for an evening at a table. Color options are offered across the range so it can match or contrast with a scheme. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel before installation, and have a qualified electrician carry out the work if you are not confident with house wiring.
