Macaron Cone Swing Arm Wall Sconce

The shade is a plain pressed cone and the arm is a single bend, so the whole fixture is four parts and reads as one clean line on the wall. What gives it character is colour rather than ornament: four matte finishes - white, black, green and pink - set against a brass-toned socket collar, so the sconce works as a small piece of colour in a room instead of a piece of hardware trying to disappear into it.

It is supplied as a pair, which suits the way this shape is usually used: two either side of a bed, or two facing each other down a hallway. The arm swings at the backplate, which is the practical reason to choose this shape over a fixed sconce. Beside a bed it turns to put light on a book and turns away again afterwards. The cone is open at the bottom and solid on top, so the light lands where the shade is pointed rather than spilling back up the wall.

Mounting height matters more here than with a recessed downlight. Hung a little above shoulder height the open shade stays out of the eyeline; hung low, the bulb is visible from across the room. It takes a standard screw-fit bulb, and a warm filament or frosted LED suits the finish best. It is a hardwired fitting - isolate the circuit at the breaker panel first, and have a qualified electrician confirm the fixture's rated voltage before wiring it in.
