Wabi-Sabi Travertine & Wood Pendant Light

Hanging a pendant beside a bed instead of standing a lamp on the table is an idea worth more attention than it gets. It frees the surface completely, the light arrives from above where it is most useful for reading, and the fitting occupies space that was doing nothing.

This one is made in travertine and wood, which suits the register. The stone brings its natural banding and small surface voids, the timber warms it, and neither material has been polished into anonymity. Each piece differs because the stone does.

The output is soft and focused, enough to read by without lighting the whole room, which is what a bedside pendant needs to be. Stone adds weight, so the ceiling fixing must be sound: use a joist or a rated anchor rather than drywall alone. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel before installation, and use a qualified electrician if you are not confident with house wiring.
