Bauhaus Glass Pendant Lamp

The Bauhaus school got one thing permanently right about lighting: a sphere of opal glass on a plain stem is hard to improve on. This pendant is a faithful reading of that idea, with a hand-blown globe shade whose milky finish turns a bare bulb into an even ball of light with no visible filament and no glare from any angle.

That even output is what makes it so easy to place. Unlike a directional shade it lights upward and outward as well as down, so a single pendant lifts a whole hallway or stairwell rather than leaving the ceiling in shadow. Over a kitchen counter or a dining table it gives soft general light that people can sit under comfortably for hours.

The stem and canopy are finished in matt metal, kept deliberately thin so the eye goes to the glass. Multiple sizes and drop lengths are available, which means you can hang one large globe alone or run three smaller ones in a line. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel first, and use a qualified electrician if you are not confident with house wiring.
