Modern Crystal Semi-Flush Ceiling Light

Crystal lighting used to mean a chandelier and the ceiling height to hang one. This fitting takes the same optical trick and compresses it: faceted crystal elements arranged close to the ceiling, so the sparkle survives but the drop does not eat two feet of headroom.

What the crystal actually does is split the light. Each facet refracts a little of the output in a different direction, which puts fine points of light on the ceiling and walls around the fitting instead of one flat wash. That is why a crystal light changes the feel of a room far more than its brightness alone would suggest.

The frame is kept simple and modern rather than ornate, so the piece reads as contemporary instead of period. It suits a bedroom, a hallway or a small dining room where a full chandelier would be too much. Clean the crystal occasionally with a dry cloth to keep the refraction sharp. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel before installation, and have a qualified electrician carry out the work if you are not confident with house wiring.
