Because the LEDs sit recessed at each end, there is no glare at eye level as you walk past, which matters more outdoors where an exposed source against a dark background ruins your night vision. Check the rating against your exact position, and for any outdoor installation use exterior-rated cable and glands. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit first and use a qualified electrician.
