Recessing the LEDs at each end removes glare at eye level, which matters more outdoors than in: an exposed source against a dark background dazzles you and ruins your night vision for the rest of the path.

A wide range of sizes and finishes is offered, so the same design can mark a small side door and a large frontage without either looking out of proportion. The housing is sealed for exterior use. Check the IP rating against your position, use exterior-rated cable and glands, and seat gaskets correctly. This is a hard-wired outdoor fitting: isolate the circuit first and use a qualified electrician.
