Nordic Glass Ball Semi-Flush Ceiling Light

A glass sphere held just below the ceiling is one of the most forgiving light fittings there is. Because the globe emits in every direction, it lifts the ceiling as well as the floor, and a room lit from a source that is glowing rather than glaring simply feels more comfortable to be in.

Semi-flush is the right mounting for it. Sitting the sphere slightly proud of the ceiling lets light escape upward, which is what stops the plaster above going dark and the room feeling shorter than it is, while keeping the whole fitting well clear of head height in a hallway.

The glass is frosted or opal depending on the variant, so the bulb inside never shows as a bright point, and the metal collar is kept minimal. Several diameters are offered, which makes it easy to use the same fitting at different scales down a hallway and into the rooms off it. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel first, and use a qualified electrician if you are not confident with house wiring.
