Rotating Wood & Aluminum Wall Lamp

A fixed wall light points where the installer decided it should point. This one rotates on its mount, so the beam follows what you are doing: down onto a book at bedtime, out into the room when you want ambient light, or up the wall for a soft wash that makes a narrow hallway feel less like a corridor.

The construction is Japanese in the plain sense of the word. Solid wood forms the arm and mounting block, anodised aluminum forms the head, and there is no ornament on either. The two materials meet in a clean joint and the whole fitting reads as one considered object rather than a lamp bolted to a bracket.

Because it mounts at the wall rather than standing on a surface, it frees a bedside table completely, which matters in a small bedroom. The head runs a warm integrated LED that stays cool enough to adjust by hand after hours of use. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel before installation, and have a qualified electrician carry out the work if you are not confident with house wiring.
