IP66 is a step above the usual exterior rating. Where IP65 covers water jetted at a fitting, IP66 covers powerful jets, which in practice means it is built for genuinely exposed positions: a seafront elevation, a wall that takes driving rain, a balcony with no shelter at all.

The 10W LED gives useful light rather than only a marker glow, so a single fitting can actually light a doorway or a balcony rather than needing to be one of a run. At that output it is still a fraction of the consumption of an equivalent halogen exterior fitting.

The ABS housing resists UV and impact and will not corrode the way metal can in salt air. Check the gaskets seat correctly on reassembly, since a rating only holds if the seal does, and use exterior-rated cable and glands. This is a hard-wired outdoor fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel first and have a qualified electrician carry out the installation.
