The lighting approach follows from the material. Rather than shining out into the room, the source washes across the stone at a shallow angle, which is what makes texture visible: every pit and ridge casts its own small shadow, and the surface comes alive in a way flat frontal light would erase.

Expect genuine variation between pieces in color, banding and surface. That is the material behaving as it should. Stone is heavy, so fix into a sound substrate with rated anchors rather than drywall alone. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel before installation, and have a qualified electrician carry out the work if you are not confident with house wiring.
