WoodAura Wood & Resin Cube Wall Light

The body is a solid wood cube turned on its corner, split by a seam of resin that glows when the light is on. With the light off it is a plain block of walnut-toned timber with one pale line across it; lit, that line becomes the entire fixture. It is a simple idea and it works precisely because nothing else on the piece competes with it.

The seam is irregular rather than ruled. It forks and narrows the way a natural split in timber does, and it carries over the corner onto two faces, so the shape of the lit line changes depending on where you are standing. Light also escapes at the top and bottom of the block, washing the wall above and below it in a soft band rather than throwing a hard pool.

The grain and the path of the seam differ from piece to piece, so no two are quite identical. Mount it at or a little above eye level, where the wall wash has room to spread; set too low it lights the skirting board more than the room. This is a hard-wired fitting: isolate the circuit at the breaker panel before installation, and have a qualified electrician carry out the work if you are not confident with house wiring.
